My daily thoughts, post-cleanse reflection, juice reviews, pros and cons.
By Sara Utsugi
But why? Yah, I know. Same question I asked myself while I was doing it. Do you hate yourself? No, I don't hate myself, but remember how I don't love my body? I decided to do a juice cleanse to spike my weight loss. Since the beginning of summer, I had lost a few pounds, but I wanted to see faster results, and I had 50% off of one day of a juice cleanse. I told myself, "Why the hell not?" and decided to go for it.
This is the second time I've done a juice cleanse, but my first time was only for one day, and I felt nothing. This round, I intended to do three days, but my dad wanted to do one day and took my third day. So here's my journal I kept during and following my two day juice cleanse. These are my personal thoughts and reflections, so feel free to share what you think about juice cleanses.
1 Day Pre-Cleanse
Today, I tried to limit my meat intake and up my water consumption. I decided to stick to only white proteins like fish and chicken. I also limited my sugar intake to fruit.
Good morning! It’s day one of my two day juice cleanse, and I’m pretty excited for today. I’m drinking my first juice (Strawberry Almond). Let’s get this going!
I already feel weak. My coworker just walked in with a box of donuts, and I can literally feel my mouth watering. Not only that, but I have a slight headache and am extremely tired. I think my headache and fatigue are due to the fact that I’ve been starting my days with Yoli’s Passion drink that has caffeine in it. I’m dying, but obviously I can’t quit after one juice. Let’s see how this goes.

I’m sipping on my second juice feeling good. I checked out the donuts and even took a nice smell of them before grabbing Greens 2. My head still feels a bit fuzzy, but I’m not as tired anymore.
Bathroom tally: 3
I’m finishing up juice 4 and ready for juice 5. Chocolate Almond, I’m coming for you! I’m not tired at all, but everything feels a little fuzzy. My brain just doesn’t feel as sharp as normal.

I just got home after a fun filled night in Waikiki. Considering that I was walking around and expending lots of energy while hunting for Terrace House stars, I don’t feel hungry, but I’m ready to crash. Today wasn’t too hard to stay away from food, but I’m glad that I’m doing a two day cleanse rather than a three. I’ll check back in tomorrow.

I went to sleep at around 10:30pm last night which is the earliest I’ve slept in a while. This morning, I noticed that I still felt a little sluggish, but now after my first juice and a short walk, I feel good. Here we go day 2!

My energy is going in waves. I’ll feel sluggish and tired one minute, but then I’m back to myself the next. I’m seriously not enjoying this juice cleanse. My teeth are starting to feel sensitive toward the juices, and I feel like I need some protein!

I feel great. Like I said earlier, my energy has been going up and down throughout the day. I went on a short walk with my coworkers and still felt good. In fact, I’m a little behind on my juices since I’m not hungry. My dad wanted to do my 3rd day of juices, but I’m debating getting another day of for myself.

I just got home, and I’m exhausted. I wasn’t able to play volleyball today, and I felt tired after "peppering" for a few minutes. Although I didn’t have an active night, I was alert and talking to people which kept me distracted from my fatigue. I wasn’t hungry throughout the day even though I didn’t drink one of my green juices. This juice cleanse has been great, but I’m ready for solids
1 Day Post-Cleanse
In total, I lost around 2 lbs. I didn’t eat any solid food until lunch today where I picked at a salad. It felt strange eating solid food, and I felt like I could feel it digesting as I ate it...weird. Instead of trying to finish the salad, I drank a smoothie about an hour later. I didn’t touch food again until about 7:30pm, but I was able to eat a fair amount. Initially after eating, my body physically hurt, but the pain went away after about an hour. I didn’t have the runs, but I did have a noticeably smaller appetite.
2 Days Post-Cleanse
The weight I lost is still off, and my appetite is still smaller. I stuck to a protein shake for breakfast and an half of an acai bowl for lunch, but I ate normal food for dinner. My appetite is still smaller than it was before, but that could be due to being distracted by activities and people throughout the day. I had a good amount of energy and even went for a swim workout tonight.
3 Days Post Cleanse
I gained one pound back, but from what I’ve been eating, that would have happened normally. I think I need to stop indulging, but it’s difficult to not after 2 days of juicing. I had pizza and a chocolate souffle at lunch today, and I finished the rest of my pizza for dinner. I will say that my appetite is still smaller than it was pre-cleanse, but I definitely love food.
In the beginning of day 2 of my juice cleanse, I had a few people message me and basically tell me that juice cleansing is a lie. Yes, it gives your digestive tract a rest and reduces your appetite, but a juice cleanse can never provide lasting results. I’m now 4 days post-cleanse, and I’ve gained a pound back. I will say that I feel a lot less bloated than I did before the cleanse, but taking 2 days off from working out made me a bit complacent and lazy with my exercise routine. No, my skin isn’t glowing, and no, I don’t feel like a new person. People who say they were full of energy have to be lying. I can't imagine feeling vibrant and energized while running on juice. I like the idea of giving your body a reset and kick start to a healthier lifestyle, but a juice cleanse is too expensive to do regularly. This cleanse was not difficult to do once I got past the first half of day 1. I was never hungry, and I enjoyed feeling hydrated and light. In the end, I don’t recommend a juice cleanse simply because it's too expensive, but I do think cleansing in general is something to look into. It was easy to do in an office setting since I didn’t have to be active, but a juice cleanse isn’t conducive to my normal routine, especially when I’m in volleyball season. I think I’ll eventually try other cleanses and fad diets just to let you know my thoughts, but until then, eat clean and workout! I hope you enjoyed joining me in my juice cleanse journey.
