Spoiler alert: not just for style
To be very candid, I gained weight in college. It wasn’t anything drastic, but I noticed it, my family noticed it, and my friends from home noticed it. As a shorter person, it’s obvious when I gain weight because there’s not much area for it to spread out across. So when I gained 6 lbs in college, it was apparent. Coming from Hawaii, I knew that when I returned home for summer, I’d be obliged to go to the beach and therefore wear a bikini. The thought this left me anxious because I knew that I didn't look the same I had a year before.
I've always had to find clothes that works for my body type, so finding a flattering bikini was just another challenge I eagerly accepted. Unless I'm being strict with my diet, I always have a little bit of a pooch. (Pooch: beautiful stomach fat...as defined by Urban Dictionary) You know, nothing crazy, but it was enough to make me feel uncomfortable in a bikini. I knew I wanted a suit that would help hide my pooch and elongate my legs; two problem areas many people struggle with. That's when I discovered the flattering genius and practicality of a one piece.
Here's the thing about one pieces: they're super trendy right now. When I show up in a hot one piece people don't think, “Oh, she must be feeling sort of bloated.” No! They say, “That one piece is so cute. Where did you get it?” I love this reaction because as a fashion lover, I can only hope to translate my inner fashionista into every outfit and look I rock. When I show up to the beach in a one piece, I look trendy, put together and most importantly, confident. It's hard in today’s society to always feel great about your body, especially when you're baring all in a bikini. So whether you're trying to rock a new look, hide a pooch or feel confident in your own skin, try a one piece. You won't regret it.
(And if you do, just give it to me!)
